The Gerald McDonald letters contain correspondence between McDonald and his cousin Patsy, her husband, Dick, and their daughter, Charlene. The letters discuss family life, McDonald's impending marriage to Clem, then fiancé, now wife, life aboard the Intrepid, various ports of call McDonald has visited and the often negative reception the crew has received, and what items family members want sent back from the various ports.

Overview
Harold Lawrence Zieg served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) starting from July 1944 as a seaman second class (radarman) and was training to be a radarman. He was promoted to seaman first class in late September, and radarman third class on November 14. After the November 25, 1944 kamikaze attack, he was listed as "Missing in Action after Japanese Aircraft exploded on Flight Deck."

Dr. Kenneth Marshall served on board Intrepid as a flight surgeon from January 1967 until December 1968. He served as a flight surgeon and was attached to Carrier Air Wing 10. Following the fire on USS Forrestal on July 29, 1967, Dr. Marshall and five other members of Intrepid’s medical staff assisted in the treatment of casualties, and this describes their activities. This collection contains a summary of the events and a newspaper clipping about Intrepid crewmen helping those affected.
