Numbers 0-7999 and miscellaneous, ca. 1952–72
Scope and Contents
An OrdAlt (Ordnance Alteration) is any modification, other than a SHIPALT, in the configuration of ordnance equipment/systems. An OrdAlt involves a change in design, material, quantity, installed location, or the relationship of the component parts of an assembly within the ship. OrdAlts include the addition, deletion, rework, or replacement of parts, assemblies, or equipment. Included here under the records management series are lists of OrdAlts and Classified Material Destruction Reports for OrdAlts and other documents. There is also a folder containing a set of OrdAlts with several related memoranda between high-level Gunnery Department personnel. The rest of the OrdAlts have been arranged by OrdAlt Number, as a few extant notes suggest they were originally arranged. An OrdAlt of note, Number 6971, contains a requisitioning Catalog of Navy Material.
