 Sub-Series
Identifier: I.B.e

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The Gunnery Department, also called the Weapons Department, was responsible for operation, maintenance, and repair of armament; care and storage of all ammunition; and deck seamanship. The ship’s Marine Detachment also was part of the Gunnery Department. Cdr. D.J. Wernimont led the Gunnery Department from 1970 to 1971.

Papers arranged in this series were found in Museum offices, the CIC, and Room 6. Papers identifiable as belonging to Phillip Pugh’s personal papers have been accessioned as A00.2014.126. Anything reasonably identifiable as Pugh's professional records or the records of the Gunnery Department has been arranged and described here. Manuals without a direct connection to the Gunnery Department have been added to the Manual collection. Two letters that did not belong to Pugh have been arranged and described as part of the Intrepid collection under the sailors’ personal papers series, with the note that they may have originated with a member of the Gunnery Department.

This series contains memoranda regarding night vision equipment, a notebook of maintenance to-do lists, personnel management records, logs, forms, and publications. The inspection records file contains memoranda, lists, and reports on an Administrative-Material Inspection and on a Marine Detachment inspection in 1970.
