Gerald McDonald Correspondence

Scope and Contents The Gerald McDonald letters contain correspondence between McDonald and his cousin Patsy, her husband, Dick, and their daughter, Charlene. The letters discuss family life, McDonald's impending marriage to Clem, then fiancé, now wife, life aboard the Intrepid, various ports of call McDonald has visited and the often negative reception the crew has received, and what items family members want sent back from the various ports.

Greg Harris Log Book

Scope and Contents Log, Flight: "Aviators Flight // Log Book" belonging to "Harris, Gregory C.," serial number "733278." -Flight log begins in May 1972 and ends July 1973, with much of the book left blank. Harris flew off Intrepid (CVS-11) from May 1972 until October 1972.

Harold Lawrence Zieg Papers

Overview Harold Lawrence Zieg served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) starting from July 1944 as a seaman second class (radarman) and was training to be a radarman. He was promoted to seaman first class in late September, and radarman third class on November 14. After the November 25, 1944 kamikaze attack, he was listed as "Missing in Action after Japanese Aircraft exploded on Flight Deck."

Harry A. Repass Log Book

Scope and Contents Log, Flight; Aviator's Flight Log Book, inside cover has "Harry A. Repass A.R.M.C. 2/C // Bombing Squadron Six // Naval Air Corps." handwriten in black ink.The log begins in May 1943 and ends November 1944. Each month has two pages with log entries. Repass flew off of aircraft carrier Enterprise before Intrepid. Most of the log is unused and blank. Pasted in the book on a blank page is a typed excerpt titled "Long Entry" and is a reccomendation for Repass to receive the Air Medal...

Scope and Contents Helen M. Mehl married Lieutenant Wayne Mehl in 1961, and spent three years living in Hawaii during Wayne’s service aboard Growler. Mehl began her interview by discussing her childhood and her upbringing in a traditional Methodist family. She then stated that after graduating high school, she attended Stanford University to study art and art history. This was where she met Wayne Mehl, and she noted that by her senior year, they were engaged. Mehl then continued, stating that she moved to Hawaii...
