His papers include the program from Intrepid's Commissioning ceremony, Intrepid printed newspapers, Plans of the Day, documents a report about the first Shakedown Cruise from September 14 to November 1, 1943, personnel records and reports, Naval dispatches, Naval song sheets, and other records pertaining to Intrepid's operations and the Pacific Fleet during Gaines' time as Commanding Officer.
