Scope and Contents Robert L. Owens served aboard Growler, first as executive officer, then as commanding officer, from February 1960 to December 13, 1963. Owens began his interview by stating where he was born and raised and discussing his service in WWII. Owens explained that after boot camp and electrical school, he rode Intrepid from Alameda to Pearl Harbor, where he served aboard the submarine tender USS Bushnell. Overview Shaun O’Shaughnessy served on board USS Growler from 1962 until 1963. He was a missile technician third class (MT3). His papers include correspondence and certificates from his Naval and submarine training, a letter to his parents, his discharge papers, and other ephemera. Included in the papers are two sets of qualification drawings, which were required before O'Shaughnessy could qualify on Growler and earn his dolphins.

Overview The Wayne Mehl Papers contains papers from his time aboard Growler in 1961 and after. The collection includes a commendation Growler received, correspondence sent home to the families of crewmembers, an address list, newsletters from the naval base at Pearl Harbor, and a blueprint of Growler General Plans.

Scope and Contents William Murphy served aboard Intrepid as a musician third class and was a member of the Navy band (both the “square” and “swing” bands) during World War II, from 1943 to 1945.
