R. Nicholas Chapman Papers

Abstract The R. Nicholas Chapman Papers contain reports, poems, and programs from Chapman's time aboard USS Intrepid. R. Nicholas Chapman served on board Intrepid as part of the decommissioning crew. Chapman was the H Division Officer and oversaw sick bay. Included in these papers are three farewell poems to various squadrons, the USS Intrepid Medical Report for 1972-1973, a program from Intrepid's 1974 Decommissioning ceremony, and a program from Intrepid's 30th Anniversary in 1973.

Ray Stone Diary

Scope and Contents Diary; During his time on Intrepid, Ray Stone kept a diary, which he later used as the basis for his memoir, My Ship! The USS Intrepid (2004). The diary lists major dates and events aboard Intrepid during World War II, including commissioning, kamikaze attacks, ports of call, and other involvements in the Pacific Theater.

Richard Allan Moran Papers

Abstract Richard Allan "Moose" Moran was a pilot with squadron VA-15 on board Intrepid in 1966. On August 7, 1966, Lt. Cdr. Moran crashed into the ocean while attempting to land on board Intrepid. His remains were not recovered. This collection contains his military records and personnel files, which were sent to his wife, Judy, after his death. It also includes dependency and survivor benefit information and forms that were also sent to Judy. Records were kept in the sections they were received in.

Scope and Contents The Richard K. Gaines Papers contains two items from his service aboard Intrepid, where he served as Intrepid's first executive officer. There is a postcard mailed to Thomas L. Sprague from the Chez Paree with inscribed names, including Gaines and Sprague. The other item in this collection is a photograph with cartoons of Gaines and Sprague.
