Biography

Richard Schacht, from Geneva, Illinois, served on the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) as an officer in the OI Division from 1966-1968, during the Vietnam War. After graduating from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, he joined the Navy, entered O.C.S., and graduated in November of 1965. He was one of 60 people in C.I.C. and each was responsible for communicating navigation or combat related information to the bridge. After his service, he worked in the banking industry, first as a branch officer, then bank manager, and then to comptroller because of his accounting background. He moved on from there and worked for several computer programing and data analysis companies before starting his own company.

Scope and Contents Richard Schacht served aboard Intrepid as an officer in the OI Division from 1966-1968, during the Vietnam War. Schacht began his interview by stating that he lived with severe asthma attacks throughout his childhood until his parents took him to a hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi where he was subsequently cured.
