Biography

Laurence Blackburn, from Boston, Massachusetts, served as the senior medical officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) during the ship’s first and second deployments to Vietnam, from 1965 to 1967. While aboard Intrepid, Blackburn worked in sick bay. He was also involved in the hydrogen sulfide gas accident that occurred during the ship’s transit to Vietnam. After his service aboard Intrepid, Blackburn was assigned to Naval Air Station Key West and Naval Air Warfare Center Warminster.
