Biography
Kenneth Erger, from Iowa, served aboard Intrepid as a fire controlman third class during World War II, from 1944 to 1946. While aboard Intrepid he was assigned to the gunnery department where he worked on a gun director on the island. From this location Erger witnessed multiple kamikaze attacks and was also burned during one of these attacks. After his time in the Navy, Erger returned home to Iowa, where he attended college, married and started a family, and worked in insurance for 40 years.
