Biography

James Richard Jones, who went by Jim, was the Aircraft Maintenance Officer with attack squadron VA-34, which was embarked on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) in 1967. According to his son, Jones had a number of overseas postings after he left Intrepid. He was assigned to Bien Thuy Air Base in South Vietnam, NAF Capodichino in Naples, and NAS Sigonella in Sicily. Jones retired from the U.S. Navy in 1979 after thirty years of service. He was a lieutenant commander at the time of his retirement. Jones died in 2008.
