Jahn, Amanda



The stepdaughter of John Bardo Gattey (his wife remarried after his death), who served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) and reported on board in 1944. He worked in the V-6 Division as an Ensign, A-V (S) under Lt. Christen. According to the War Diaries, he was killed at 12:59 on November 25, 1944 as a result of the kamikaze attacks.

Abstract The John Bardo Gattey Papers contain materials from Gattey's service aboard USS Intrepid in 1944 and was killed in action during the kamikaze attacks on November 25, 1944. It includes a diary from his time aboard Intrepid, as well as his marriage certiticate, his purple heart certificate, and a memorial certificate signed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt after his death.
