Pierce Yarrell "PY" Matthews Jr. served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVA-11) as a Lieutenant Commander in the W Division in the early 1960’s. His letters and postcards to his parents cover his pre-Intrepid service through his time on board. According to Matthew's obituary (http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/citizen-times/obituary.aspx?pid=172417845), he retired as Lt. Commander in the Navy. He began a second career in teaching and tutoring, including math at Roger Ascham Academy, chess at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and dance at Arthur Murray.
