Biography
Allen Odette, born in Naperville, Illinois, served aboard the submarine USS Growler (SSG-577) from August 1961 to December 1963, as a fire control technician (missile guidance systems) second class. Odette’s primary role on Growler focused on fire control for the Regulus missiles, however he also stood electronic countermeasure watches and worked with the ship’s inertial navigation system (SINS). Odette’s experiences on Growler nurtured his future interest in electronics and GPS systems, which influenced his life after serving in the Navy.
