Biography
Cal Waldhart served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) during the early 1970s. He was a member of Helicopter Support Squadron HS-5 and participated on the 1972-73 North Atlantic cruise. During this time HS-11 was already deployed on Intrepid. HS-5 was on the USS Wasp but that ship was being decommissioned. HS-5 was added to the Intrepid cruise giving the Air Wing the unique situation of having two helicopter units at the same time. The two squadrons operated as a single unit during the cruise.
