Biography
Lt. George A. Griffith Jr. served as a fighter pilot on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) with VF-18 during World War II. On October 28, 1944, Lt. Griffith’s aircraft experienced engine failure on takeoff, fell into the ocean and was run over by the ship. Destroyers searched for him, but nothing was found.
