Biography
Elizabeth (Lit) Anderson’s father, Paul Lyness, was an Intrepid plank owner. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942. He began his Intrepid service as an ensign in the Communications Department. He worked closely with Captain Thomas Sprague and later worked with Sprague when he was promoted to Admiral.

Abstract
The Paul Lyness papers document Lyness’s World War II government and U.S. Navy positions, including his service on USS Intrepid. They reflect his work with Captain/Rear Admiral Thomas Sprague both on Intrepid and during Sprague’s command of Carrier Division 22.
