Laurence Blackburn served as the senior medical officer aboard Intrepid during the ship’s first and second deployments to Vietnam, from 1965 to 1967. Richard Schacht served aboard Intrepid as an officer in the OI Division from 1966-1968, during the Vietnam War. Schacht began his interview by stating that he lived with severe asthma attacks throughout his childhood until his parents took him to a hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi where he was subsequently cured.
