Scope and Contents Brian Walker served aboard Intrepid as an attack aviator in VA-34 during Intrepid’s second Vietnam deployment in 1967. He began his interview by discussing his upbringing in Wisconsin and his interest in flight, which began at an early age. Scope and Contents Brian Walker served as a pilot on board Intrepid during the ship’s second deployment to Vietnam in 1967. He was a lieutenant junior grade with squadron VA-34. Mr. Walker was one of the pilots who lived in the bunkroom nicknamed “Triple Stix,” and one of the contributors to the “Triple Stix” log, which is in the collection. Overview David Benedict served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVA-11). He worked first as a boiler tender in the number two boiler room, and then as a yeoman in the engineering office. On April 25, 1961, steam lines in a fire room ruptured, and steam spilled out into the 2nd and 3rd decks. As Benedict and his crew evacuated the area, he heard a cry for help.
