Scope and Contents

Diary; December 11, 1962–February 7, 1963. Green fabric covered diary that has "Pierre" written vertically on the cover. The title page has "Pierre // Gregory // Kochera" handwritten in pencil.

The diary is a document of life on board the submarine. Kochera discusses such aspects of daily life as grooming and hygiene, food on board, entertainment, crew member relations, and other topics. The diary serves as a long letter to an unidentified person about Kochera's time aboard Growler.

There are twenty (20) photographs taped to some of the back pages with captions. There are nine (9) black & white photographs and eleven (11) color photographs. Subjects include Christmas on board Growler, ship spaces, other crewmembers, gooney birds in port, and swimming off of Growler.
