Biography
Raymond T. Stone, from Cedarhurst, Long Island, served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) as a radarman second class during World War II, from 1943 to 1945. While aboard Intrepid he worked in the combat information center (CIC) operating radar scopes and tracking aircraft. He also experienced kamikaze attacks. Stone began a career in advertising after his time in the Navy. He was actively involved with the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and the USS Intrepid Association of former crew members. Stone wrote the book My Ship! The USS Intrepid (2004) as a memoir of his World War II service.
