Scope and Contents
Shipyard records pertain to the work of Boston and Philadelphia Naval Shipyards. The sub-series includes a major report from Hunters Point on torpedo damage during World War II, and a major report titled Intrepid Overhaul Program, submitted by Lt. Cdr. J.V. Burchett, Aircraft Carrier Program Manager. The latter report describes the program developed for fiscal year 1969 regular overhaul of Intrepid, including planning, management, goals, and participation of the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. Also present are Job Orders, shipyard-issued orders to accomplish a piece of work that the ship had previously asked for via a Work Request. Job Orders provide a specific assignment of the task, assign shop responsibility, and detail materials, man-hour limits, and plans required.
