B Division records, ca. 1956–February 15, 1974, n.d.; bulk 1969–February 15, 1974
Scope and Contents
B Division maintained the boilers and ran the steam evaporators that fed the boilers and furnished personnel with fresh water. It included the Oil Shack, supervised by the Oil King. From 1972 to 1973, B Division was led by B Division Officer Chief Warrant Officer R. Nason. The B Division material officer was Chief Warrant Officer Carl Snipes, Boiler Technician Chief Petty Officer First Class C.N. Willis and Boiler Technician Chief Petty Officer Third Class R.W. Taylor served as Oil Kings, and C. Morgan was a boiler technician chief petty officer. B Some B Division records were clearly identifiable as originating with Snipes, Morgan, or the Oil Shack, and were placed in the appropriate sub-series. B Division records also contain many logs relating to B Division’s work. Subjects of B Division records include personnel management, supply, inactivation, ship alterations, shipyard work (RAV [Restricted Availability] Work Packages), PMS (Planned Maintenance System), and water and fuel management.
