Biography

Herman Nascimento, from Maui, Hawaii, served aboard the submarine USS Growler (SSG-577) from 1958 to 1961, as an engineman petty officer third class. Much of his time aboard Growler was spent in the engine room and engine control room where he maintained and operated Growler’s diesel engines. After leaving the Navy Nascimento remained in Hawaii where he worked as a carpenter and held various positions in the carpenters’ union.
